Terms of Service — Chess Training Puzzles Tool

1. Purpose and Scope
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern access to and use of the interactive Chess Training puzzle tool currently available at https://www.chesstraining.com/puzzles, together with the related information and legal pages accessible from that tool (the "Service"). The Service allows users to solve chess puzzles and use related chess training features.
These Terms are drafted for the current puzzle tool. Other pages, features or services that may later be made available on chesstraining.com may be subject to these Terms, to additional terms, or to separate terms, depending on their nature.
2. Service Provider
The Service is operated by Goldgewicht Consulting, EURL, registered with the Paris Trade and Companies Register under number 823 517 578 R.C.S. Paris, with its registered office at 75 avenue Parmentier, 75011 Paris, France. Contact: contact@chesstraining.com.
3. Acceptance of the Terms
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service. These Terms apply to the free chess puzzle training tool currently made available at https://www.chesstraining.com/puzzles.
4. Description of the Service
The Service provides an interactive interface for solving chess puzzles, including chess positions, expected solutions, feedback on moves and related training features. Your progress and preferences may be stored locally in your browser. The Service does not currently provide user accounts and does not synchronise your progress across devices.
The Service is provided for personal training, educational and informational purposes. Puzzle content, solutions, move evaluations and feedback may contain errors or omissions and should not be relied on as a guaranteed source of chess analysis.
5. Access and Availability
You are responsible for the equipment, browser, software and internet connection required to access the Service. Goldgewicht Consulting makes reasonable efforts to keep the Service available, but does not guarantee uninterrupted, secure or error-free access. The Service may be modified, suspended or discontinued, in whole or in part, at any time.
6. User Obligations
You agree to use the Service lawfully, for personal and non-commercial purposes only, and not to infringe the rights of Goldgewicht Consulting or third parties. In particular, you must not:
- disrupt, overload, damage or impair the Service or its technical infrastructure;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system, database, source code or restricted area;
- use bots, AI systems, scrapers or other automated tools to extract, analyse, copy or reuse puzzles, solutions, databases, content or other data beyond normal personal use;
- use individual puzzle URLs or links to recreate, index, aggregate, republish, mirror or build a dataset from the puzzle collection;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, deobfuscate or otherwise attempt to derive source code except where expressly permitted by applicable law;
- copy, redistribute, publish, modify, sell or commercially exploit the Service or any substantial part of its content without prior written permission;
- use the Service in a way that violates applicable law or third-party rights.
7. Intellectual Property
The Service is protected by intellectual property laws. All rights are reserved.
The Service and its original content and features — including the interface, databases, puzzle selection, text, graphics, logos, visual identity, chess piece artwork, chessboard artwork, image files, custom images and other materials — are owned by Goldgewicht Consulting, except for third-party materials used in the Service.
This protection applies to these elements in all formats and forms, including exported image files and any corresponding digital files.
Third-party icons, images, fonts, open-source software components, libraries or other third-party materials remain the property of their respective rights holders and are subject to their own licences.
You are not granted any right to copy, extract, download, reproduce, reuse, modify, adapt, publish, redistribute, sell, licence, incorporate into another product or service, or otherwise exploit these elements, in whole or in part, except as strictly necessary to display and use the Service normally in your web browser.
The selection, arrangement, categorisation, sequencing and presentation of the puzzles made available through the Service constitute a protected collection and database owned by Goldgewicht Consulting. You may not copy, extract, scrape, reproduce, download, store, redistribute, republish, make available, sell, licence, incorporate into another product or service, or otherwise reuse all or any substantial part of the puzzle collection, whether by manual or automated means. Repeated or systematic extraction or reuse of non-substantial parts of the puzzle collection beyond normal personal use is also prohibited.
Individual puzzle URLs or links may be shared for personal and non-commercial purposes, provided that they point back to the Service. The existence of such links, or of any future sharing feature, does not grant any licence to reproduce the puzzle, its solution, its data, the visual assets, or any substantial part of the puzzle collection outside the Service. You may not use individual puzzle links to recreate, compile, scrape, mirror, republish, index, make available or build a dataset from all or part of the puzzle collection.
Subject to these Terms, you are granted a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable and non-commercial right to access and use the Service for your own chess training. No other rights are granted.
8. Privacy and Local Storage
Privacy and local storage are described in the Privacy Policy. In summary, the Service does not currently use user accounts; puzzle progress and preferences are stored locally in your browser and are not sent to Goldgewicht Consulting as part of normal use; Plausible may provide anonymous, aggregate, cookieless statistics; and if you contact us by email, we use the information you choose to send only to respond to your message and manage any follow-up.
9. Third-Party Services and Links
The Service may rely on third-party technical providers, such as hosting, analytics or email providers. The website may also include links to third-party websites. Goldgewicht Consulting is not responsible for third-party websites, services or content, which are governed by their own terms and policies.
The fact that legal or information pages are accessible from the puzzle tool does not mean that all future features of chesstraining.com will necessarily be governed by these exact Terms without adaptation.
10. Disclaimer
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. It is intended for personal chess training, educational and recreational purposes only.
Chess puzzles, solutions, move feedback, rankings, progress indicators and any related content may contain errors, omissions or inaccuracies. They are not intended to be relied upon as a guaranteed source of chess analysis, training results or performance improvement.
Goldgewicht Consulting does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, accurate or suitable for any particular purpose, or that all chess puzzles, solutions or feedback will be correct.
You remain responsible for your own use of the Service and for any decisions you make based on puzzle content or feedback. The Service does not guarantee chess improvement, tournament performance, ratings progress or any specific training result.
11. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Goldgewicht Consulting shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, including loss of profits, loss of data, business interruption, loss of opportunity or reputational harm arising from use of, or inability to use, the Service.
Goldgewicht Consulting shall not be liable for loss of locally stored progress, preferences or settings, including where such loss results from browser settings, device changes, cache clearing, private browsing modes, software updates or user actions.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by applicable law, including liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, personal injury, statutory consumer rights, or any mandatory rights you may have under French or European law.
12. Suspension or Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. Goldgewicht Consulting may suspend or restrict access to the Service if you breach these Terms, misuse the Service, create security risks, or infringe third-party rights.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
French law applies to these Terms and to the use of the Service.
In the event of a dispute, you are encouraged to contact Goldgewicht Consulting first so that the parties can try to resolve the matter amicably.
Subject only to any mandatory rules that may apply, including consumer protection rules where applicable, any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service shall be submitted to the competent French courts.
14. Changes to the Terms
Goldgewicht Consulting may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Service, legal requirements or business needs. If new services are added to chesstraining.com, they may be covered by an updated version of these Terms, by additional terms, or by separate terms. The applicable version is the version available on the website when you use the Service.
